SEAGRASS RUGSThough considered as perhaps the least expensive natural fiber, seagrass is by no means less elegant or durable than the other natural fibers. Seagrass thrives in the coastal regions of China and India and is grown in wet paddies. Because of its non porous fiber, seagrass cannot be dyed and only comes in color ranging from brown to sage hues. This important non absorbent characteristic is what makes seagrass naturally stain resistant. Despite the limited color options, seagrass’ natural colors blends well with various furniture settings as well. A favorite of beachowners, seagrass can withstand heavy traffic and repels stains fairly well. Its fibers also resist moisture, mold, and mildew relatively better than other natural fibers. Just like sisal, seagrass is backed with natural latex and bound with cotton tape for added durability. Seagrass is relatively easy to clean. Its smooth stain-repellant fibers allows dirt to be easily brushed loose.
